JHA Employment, Training Program Celebrates new Graduates
The Johnstown Housing Authority’s Employment and Training Program celebrated eight graduates of the program’s second cohort who went into a new stage of life Friday.
The event at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College in Richland Township marked a for www.opad.biz the graduates, who are set to look for further education or work in the Johnstown location, said JHA Executive Director Mike Alberts.
For the previous four months, those enrolled in the program finished courses offered by a collaboration amongst Penn Highlands, horizonsmaroc.com Johnstown Area Regional Industries and PA CareerLink.
The program included courses offered at Johnstown public real estate community spaces to eliminate participants’ transport barriers.
The curriculum consisted of conflict management, task search and interview abilities, Microsoft Word and Excel, and life abilities management, as well as sightseeing tour for a robotics bootcamp and tours of technology-based production companies consisting of Kitron and Compass Systems.
The event Friday celebrated the 8 graduates of the program while acknowledging lots more who registered, but chose out after discovering employment or other more education chances along the method.

JARI Director of Workforce Development Dave Grimaldi said members of the program’s second friend have advanced to further education at Penn Highlands or other location schools for accreditation in fields consisting of HVAC, emergency medication and cybersecurity. The program was initiated by previous JARI Workforce Development Director Debra Balog and
PA CareerLink Cambria County site administrator Jeff Dick.”This was among the best concepts we’ve had for finding quality staff members for employers in the area,”Balog said.”We created the idea of dealing with our public housing systems because many individuals had transportation and childcare barriers that kept them from accessing resources beyond Johnstown’s public housing.” U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Pittsburgh Field Office Director Michael Horvath said the program has assisted individuals”
lift themselves up and get them connected. “He congratulated the graduates and the collaborators who made the program possible. The program has actually made HUD recognition as a finest practice, a recognition provided to one authority every year for specifically improving the lives of its locals, Alberts stated. The graduates received certificates and a standing ovation from household and friends in attendance, along with Cambria County Commissioner Thomas Chernisky, Cambria Regional Chamber of Commerce President Amy Bradley and representatives from U.S. Sen. John Fetterman’s workplace. Fetterman, D-Pa., and former U.S. Sen. Bob Casey contributed in championing the program, JARI President Linda Thomson said.
